NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello SS49,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

Ways to improve Pratiksha

Hello, SS49,

Thanks for creating Pratiksha! I edit here too, under the username Boleyn and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-

This has been tagged for one issue.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Boleyn}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Boleyn, is this template needed to post on my talk page? And I am sure you didn't review the article either. ~SS49~ {talk} 08:51, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
Hello, SS49. If a New Page Patroller reviews a page and tags it, it is considered polite to let the creator know, and so the tool is set up to do so. I'm not sure what you mean by 'I am sure you didn't review the article'; I did review the article. Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 16:02, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
Hi Boleyn, I mean to say that I have autopatrolled right here and pages created by me need not to be reviewed. Sorry for the misunderstanding. If this was manual message instead of template I would be more than happy. Thanks. ~SS49~ {talk} 22:05, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
Hello, SS49. I'm sorry you don't like the template, but there is no insult intended in using it. It takes a reviewer about three times as long to do it manually, but if I see your name again, I will aim to do it that way. The idea is that if a new page is tagged, it is courteous to tick the box that says 'let the creator know', it's one of our guidelines. All new articles go into the NewPageFeed, and yours came up with writing in red next to it saying there was an issue with it, so I checked it and tagged it. If there's no red writing next to it, it's unlikely anyone would look at an autopatrolled article. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 07:56, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi Boleyn, Thank you so much for the message. ~SS49~ {talk} 11:28, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – June 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2019).

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
  • An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
  • An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.

Technical news

  • The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
  • Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.
